Man Accidentally Shoots Gun Through Wall, Hits Neighbor: Police

A Woodbridge man is facing charges after his gun misfired and the bullet went through his apartment wall, hitting his neighbor.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A Woodbridge man was arrested Sunday after he was attempting to move his gun to a different location inside his home and the gun fired a round which traveled through the wall and hit his neighbor, police say.

Kyle M. James, 25, was arrested on charges of reckless handling of a firearm and shooting into an occupied building following the Nov. 3 incident at Summerland Heights Apartments, located in the 1000 block of Gardenview Loop. Police said James was attempting to move his handgun when it fired, hitting a 42-year-old woman in a nearby apartment in the abdomen.

Police said James immediately went to check on the woman following the shot. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

James was released from jail on an unsecured bond.
