DUMFRIES, VA — A man is being held without bond after assaulting two officers while being detained for illegally firing a gun Saturday in the 3100 block of Chesapeake Drive, according to Prince William County Police. James A. Ellison, Jr., of the aforementioned address, was charged with two counts of assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, one count of willfully discharging a firearm in a public place, one count of reckless handling of a firearm, one count of obstruction of justice and one count of public intoxication.

Around 4:45 p.m., police went to the residence to investigate a shots-fired call. They found Jones and deemed him to be drunk. He didn't obey their commands, and when they tried to arrest him he kicked an officer in the lower body during a struggle. After he ultimately was taken to the police station for booking, Ellison hit a second officer in the upper body and, after a struggle, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Police got a search warrant for the apartment and two handguns were found. The officers suffered minor injuries.
