WOODBRIDGE, VA — Another man has been arrested in the 2015 gang-related death of a Maryland man in at a wooded area in the 14300 block of Westminster Lane, according to Prince William County Police. Jose Elias Ayala-Gomes, now 21, was charged with murder by Montgomery County Police and is awaiting extradition to Virginia.
The victim, Guillermo Hernandez Leyva, 19, of Montgomery County, was found Sept. 29 while police were investigating an unrelated call of a shooting at Dale Forest Apartments. His scant remains were examined by the Medical Exanimer's Office, which ruled the death a murder.
Further investigation found that both he and the suspects — several of whom already have been arrested — had ties to the deadly street gang Mara Salvatrucha, or MS13. Police say he came to Prince William County in 2015 from Maryland and once here was beaten and stabbed to death. In 2017, police arrested other suspects in Maryland, Indiana, New Jersey and Texas.
