According to police, several people were playing basketball on a nearby court when another group arrived. During the encounter, police said a confrontation ensued between the arriving group and some of the individuals previously on the court.
Louis Anthony Boone, 18, of Dumfries, died from a gunshot wound, police said. Those injured included a 20-year-old man from Woodbridge, a 16-year-old boy from Dumfries, and two 17-year-old boys, both of Woodbridge.

According to police, one of the injured victims — a 17-year-old boy from Woodbridge — was also taken into custody in connection with the shooting following his release from the hospital. He was charged with felony homicide and multiple weapons charges.
Preliminarily, police said the shooting did not appear to be random.
