Man Dies After Jumping from Hotel Window
A Lake Ridge man died early Thursday morning after witnesses said he jumped from a third story window.

Updated 3:36 p.m.: The police department identified the victim as Wendell M. Bates.
A 47-year-old Lake Ridge man died at the hospital Thursday morning after initially surviving a fall from a third-floor hotel window.

Witnesses told police the man jumped from a third-floor hallway window at the Inns of Virginia on Annapolis Way just before 2:30 a.m. The man landed on the hood of a car in the parking lot, then ran down Jefferson Davis Highway.
Police found the man trying to run into traffic, and they stopped him for his own safety. As medical crews arrived, the man passed out and was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The man's identity has not been released, pending notification of his family. Police are still investigating the incident.
