Parent Hurt After Trying To Force His Way Onto School Bus: Police

A parent who argued with a school bus driver, tried to board, and held onto the door handle as the bus drove away was hurt, police said.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — A man was injured after he tried to force his way onto a Prince William County school bus in Dumfries on Tuesday, police said. Authorities said a tire hit the man in the lower leg while he tried to hang onto the bus as it drove away.

The Prince William County Police Department identified the man as 32-year-old Gione Deswayne Wise. Wise received medical treatment at a hospital, but his injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

Wise is charged with disorderly conduct and attempted trespassing on a school bus. His court date is pending and he was released on a court summons.

If convicted, Wise could be sentenced to up to two years in prison and could be ordered to pay a $5,000 fine, based on Virginia's sentencing guidelines.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Tuesday in the 3100 block of Chesapeake Drive in Dumfries, according to the police report. Authorities said the bus was trying to unload students when a group of people started arguing with the driver.

The driver tried to close the door, but a parent of one of the students on the bus began knocking on the door, police said. When the bus driver didn't respond, the parent hit the glass of door and tried to open it. The driver started to accelerate away, according to police.

The parent, who police later identified as Wise, held onto the door handle as the bus drove down the roadway. When he eventually let go, he fell to the ground and one of the bus's tires hit him in the leg, authorities said.

The bus driver took the students who were still on the bus back to their school. None of the children were injured, and their parents or guardians picked them up from school.

After an investigation, authorities charged Wise with attempted trespassing on a school bus and disorderly conduct.
