DUMFRIES, VA — Robbers shot a man outside of a Dumfries business on Monday night, according to the Prince William County Police Department. Police officers chased the robbers, who eventually escaped.

The victim, who police identified as a 26-year-old man, was taken to a hospital on Monday night. Authorities said his injuries were not life-threatening.

The police department did not provide a detailed suspect description on Tuesday. Authorities only described the robbers as masked individuals wearing dark clothing.

The robbery occurred around 6 p.m. on Monday in the 17200 block of Wayside Drive. The victim was with a 32-year-old woman in the parking lot of a business when a group of masked people approached them, police said.

The victim struggled with the robbers, who tried to take his property. During the struggle, one of the masked people fired multiple gunshots, according to the police report. Some of the robbers ran away while others drove away as the victim suffered from multiple gunshots wounds, the police department said.

The victim was taken to a hospital before police officers arrived on the scene.

When officers arrived on the scene, they saw a man who matched the suspect description walk out of the woods and get into a vehicle. The police officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to pull over, authorities said.

The driver turned onto Chesapeake Drive and hit two parked vehicles before stopping, according to the police report. The people in the vehicle ran away from the scene.

A police K-9 and a helicopter searched for the suspects, but officers could not find them.
