Missing Kids Report Leads To Felony Child Neglect: Police

WOODBRIDGE, VA — When your home is described by police as "deplorable and unkempt," and you seem to have lost two children who live there under your custody, well, that certainly will have consequences. That's the way things went down last Saturday in the 14700 b lock of Birchdale Avenue, according to Prince William County Police.
Around 3:15, police responded to the residence for a report of two missing children, 8 and 11. Marilyn Caroline Morton, 53, of the aforementioned address, said the kids never returned home after leaving that morning and that she had no idea where they were. Police canvassed the neighborhood and eventually found the kids safe at a playground in the area of Brook Drive and Benton Street.
Happy ending? Not quite. Earlier, when police checked the residence, they found conditions considered by them to be "deplorable and unkempt." As such, Morton was charged with felony child neglect.
