WOODBRIDGE, VA — A multi-car crash on Route 1 in Woodbridge left one man dead and three other injured on Monday, according to a report from the Prince William County Police Department. Authorities are still investigating the crash, though they said that alcohol and drug use were not factors.

Investigators responded to the scene of the crash around 11 a.m. on Monday morning. The crash occurred on Jefferson Davis Highway near Wigglesworth Way.

Just before the crash, a 2016 Hyundai Elantra made a right turn out of a business's parking lot and onto the 14200 block of Jefferson Davis Highway, police said. The Elantra then moved to the left travel lane, where it crossed into the path of a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was travelling southbound.

The driver of the Jeep attempted to veer to the left, where it collided with the Elantra in the road's two-way center lane. Police believe the collision caused the Jeep to continue into the northbound lanes, where it collided head-on with a 2009 Lincoln Town Car.

The impact with the Jeep rotated the Town Car, which was then struck by a 2017 Mercedes GLE that was also travelling northbound.

The driver of the Hyundai Elantra, a 23-year-old man from Woodbridge, was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

The drivers of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Mercedes GLE suffered serious injuries, according to police. The driver of the Jeep was flown to the hospital.

Police are still investigating the crash, though they do not believe that alcohol or drugs were a factor. They have also not determined whether speed may have been a factor.
