New Bridge Reopens Key Broad Run Trail Connection In Prince William County

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — A trail connection that had been missing for eight years has reopened in western Prince William County with the completion of a new bridge across Broad Run.

The Rocky Branch Bridge is now open along the Broad Run Trail in the Braemar and Dunbarton area, restoring a crossing that was lost when the original bridge washed out during major flooding in July 2018, according to Prince William County Parks and Recreation. The previous bridge had been installed in 2012-13.

Construction on the replacement began in October 2025 and was completed in June. The project cost approximately $858,000, county officials said.

The new bridge is 55 feet long and 6 feet wide. County officials said replacing the former structure required a redesign and environmental review, with the new bridge incorporating a deep foundation system intended to make it more resistant to flooding and reduce the chance of another washout.

Lardner/Klein Landscape Architects handled the project's design and engineering, while PBS Contracting performed the construction.

County officials recently marked the bridge's completion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
