New Video Highlights Changes Coming to I-95

Carpool, vanpool or slug on I-95? Check out a new carpooling video to get prepared for the 95 Express Lanes.

When open, the 95 Express Lanes will provide travelers who currently carpool, slug or vanpool on I-95 with 24/7 toll-free travel, expanded commuter lots and relief from the Dumfries bottleneck where the HOV lanes currently end. In the meantime, it’s important that HOV-3+ travelers prepare for the changes coming to I-95.

To help carpoolers learn how to use the road, the 95 Express Lanes released a new video focused on carpooling on the Express Lanes.

The video provides travelers who plan on carpooling, slugging or riding in a vanpool with a visual guide of how to use the Express Lanes. Simulations and graphics throughout the video explain how traffic movements in the transition area – where the 95 Express Lanes end and the I-395 HOV lanes begin – will work.

Information about the new rules of the road are also included in the video, such as the requirement that carpools, slugs and vanpools need at least three people (HOV-3+) in the vehicle – including the driver – and an E-ZPass Flex set to HOV mode to travel toll-free on the Express Lanes.

It’s important that HOV-3+ travelers obtain an E-ZPass Flex before the Express Lanes open. Using the E-ZPass Flex is easy – there is a switch on the Flex that allows drivers to change between HOV mode and toll-paying mode. Travelers will know that their E-ZPass Flex is in HOV mode when they hear a beep.
