A hiring spree is underway in Virginia and Washington, DC, by a couple of companies, and the jobs start soon. How you can apply.

Looking for work this spring? Washington, D.C., and northern Virginia may now be the place to be if you need a job. Two companies are hiring over 3,000 workers, and the application period has begun.

Home Depot plans to hire hundreds of people at its approximately 48 locations across Virginia and DC beginning in the spring. Lowe's, which has 70 sites in the state and DC, plans to hire about 2,600 workers in Virginia and 300 in Washington DC. (Find store locations below).

Just last week, Lowe's hosted a National Hiring Day at all of its stores in Virginia, DC and across the country. The company currently employs more than 9,000 people in Virginia and The District.

Home Depot has launched a new tool that allows job applicants to self-schedule in-person interviews as the company works to fill more than 80,000 positions nationally for its busy spring selling season.

Using the tool, which is available 24/7 on any device, candidates who have completed an application for an open job in a Home Depot store or distribution center can easily choose the most convenient interview appointment available. About 80 percent of The Home Depot's candidates have taken advantage of the tool since the pilot began this past November, according to a release from the company.

"Just as we're continuously evolving to meet the changing expectations of our customers, we're harnessing new technologies to do the same for job seekers," said Tim Hourigan, EVP – Human Resources. "This consumer-like experience helps us hire the best talent to serve our customers."
