Pedestrian Identified Who Was Fatally Struck By Car In Woodbridge
Authorities have released the name of a man fatally struck by a car on Monday on Richmond Highway in Woodbridge.
WOODBRIDGE, VA — A 70-year-old man died on Monday after police said he was struck by a car while he was attempting to cross Richmond Highway in Woodbridge.
Prince William County police said the incident occurred around 6 p.m. near the area of Richmond Highway and Opitz Boulevard.
Authorities identified the deceased as Julio Carlos Cruz Merino, 70, of Woodbridge.

According to police, the victim was walking in the road and was trying to cross the highway when he was struck by a motorist traveling south in a 2025 Toyota Camry. Police later determined Cruz Merino was not in a designated crosswalk or safe crossing area when the crash occurred.
Cruz Merino suffered injuries in the collision and was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as a 19-year-old man, stayed at the scene and was not injured.
