'Polar Plunge' Festival Saturday at Tim's Rivershore in Dumfries
Held to benefit the Special Olympics of Virginia, the cost to take the plunge into the Potomac River is $100. Also held: a costume contest.

DUMFRIES, VA — Despite the recent run of warmth that's expected to last through the beginning of the weekend, rest assured that the Potomac River is still plenty cold.
And we tell you that why? Because Saturday is the Northern Virginia Polar Plunge Festival, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Tim's Rivershore Restaurant & Crabhouse, 1510 Cherry Hill Road.
But it's more than just an in-and-out dash. There also will be live music, a plunge costume contest and door prizes.
