Police: Carjacking Foiled, But Victim Seriously Injured
The driver sustained non-life threatening injuries when he struggled with the suspect, according to Prince William County Police.

DUMFRIES, VA -- A Woodbridge man is recovering from serious, but not life-threatening injuries in an attempted carjacking Monday, according to Prince William County Police.
Michael Todd Birkl, 47, of 17695 Washington St, is charged with malicious wounding and attempted carjacking. He is being held without bond.
On Monday morning, the 35-year-old victim was in the drive-thru line at McDonalds at 17340 Dumfries Rd when Birkl allegedly opened the unlocked passenger side door and sat down.

Birkl pulled out a knife when the victim refused Birkl’s command to drive, and a struggle ensued, according to police. The victim sustained a serious injury to one of his hands.
Birkl attempted to flee on foot, but responding officers located him a short distance away.
