Norton was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe southbound on Spriggs Road when, for unknown reasons, the SUV sideswiped a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, also traveling south, the police said. The Tahoe then veered off the road and struck a tree.

The pickup truck driver, a 45-year-old Woodbridge man, was not injured. "It is unknown at this time if speed, alcohol or drugs were a factor" in the accident, the police report said.
