The suspect, Aaron M. Berg, is being held at the Henrico County Jail on charges of felony sodomy, strangulation, assault and battery, abduction with intent to defile, and intentionally destroying property. Berg and the 18-year-old victim were acquainted with one another prior to Thursdayโ€™s abduction and assault, the State Police said.

At about 1:36 p.m. Thursday, the State Police said they were notified of a possible abduction in progress on I-95 in Northern Virginia. State troopers were dispatched to search for the suspectโ€™s vehicle, which was heading north on I-95 through Prince William County.

At approximately 1:50 p.m., Bergโ€™s vehicle pulled off on the shoulder of I-95 near the 155-mile marker, near the Dale Boulevard exit, and the 18-year-old female fled from the car, the State Police said.

Berg, the driver, ran after the young woman on foot for a short distance before returning to his vehicle and driving off at a high rate of speed, the State Police said. They continued to search for Bergโ€™s vehicle.

State Police officers went to Bergโ€™s residence in Glen Allen, a suburb of Richmond, and then on Thursday night to a family memberโ€™s residence in Hanover County, another Richmond suburb, where Berg was apprehended without incident.
