Prince William County Crossing Guard Named One of Virginia's Best: VDOT

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A venerable school school crossing guard in Prince William County is one of six throughout the state to be named an Outstanding Crossing Guard by the Virginia Department of Transportation's "Safe Routes to School Program."
Roger Talley, who has worked the intersection of Darbydale and Eastlawn Avenues near Hampton Middle School for more than 15 years, received 39 nominations — most from students.
"I love the job (and) I love the kids," Talley said. "When these kids come across here, they're mine. They're my kids. Their safety is my priority."

One student described Talley as "the best crossing guard in the world."
More than 70 crossing guards were nominated statewide.
