Prince William County Schools Change Schedule For Friday, Jan. 28

Snow is expected to arrive in the region on Friday evening. School officials in Prince William County are changing plans accordingly.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — All afternoon and evening activities at Prince William County Schools on Friday are cancelled, the school system announced. Events scheduled before 12 p.m. on Saturday are also cancelled.

Winter weather is expected to arrive in the area on Friday evening. Prince William County will be under a winter weather advisory beginning at 4 p.m.

The School Age Child Care program will close at 5 p.m. on Friday. All sporting events, practices, and club meetings on Friday will be cancelled.

Events scheduled after 12 p.m. on Saturday may continue as scheduled.

The National Weather Service expects 1 to 3 inches of snow with impacts to the Friday evening commute. The winter weather advisory will continue through the early hours of Saturday.

The Virginia Department of Transportation, which maintains most roads in Prince William County, pretreated roads and will deploy trucks midday Friday to treat roads as needed. With temperatures expected to be below freezing in then next several days, VDOT urges drivers to use caution in areas that can be icy, particularly bridges, ramps, overpasses and elevated surfaces.
