Prince William Police To Crack Down on Drunk Drivers

Upcoming Labor Day weekend is expected to bring surge of impaired driving.

The Prince William County police have announced that they will join the nationwide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which begins today and runs through Labor Day, on Monday, Sept. 7.

The Prince William police, as well as law enforcement agencies throughout Virginia and the region, are targeting this time period because holiday weekends bring a surge in drunk driving.

“We want drivers to know that we don’t tolerate drunk driving. No excuses, no warnings,” the police said. “If drivers are caught driving impaired, they will be arrested.”

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that of the 10,076 people who were killed in impaired-driving crashes in 2013, 65 percent were the drunk drivers themselves.

Drunk driving is reckless and preventable, and the sobriety campaign is meant to get that point across. Drivers continue to break the law by driving impaired, putting thousands of travelers at risk every day.
