Quantico Live-Fire Training: Sounds, Vibrations Possible

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — If your house shook in eastern Prince William County this morning, you're not alone. Through Dec. 17, Marines at Quantico will be conducting live-fire training exercises with explosives and firearms.

In an update posted to Facebook, Marine Corps Base Quantico said that training would be almost continuous. Residents near the base can expect to feel vibrations, see flashes, or hear gunshots while training takes place.

Here is the full schedule for live-fire training at the base through Dec. 17:

• Dec. 8, 6 a.m. – 11 p.m.
  • Live Fire Demo 1LB & Below; 155MM Howitzer, 81MM Mortars
• Dec. 9, 6 a.m. – 11 p.m.
  • Live Fire Demo 1LB & Below; Combat FEX w/Bangalore & Claymore; 155MM Howitzer, 81MM Mortars
• Dec. 10, 6 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Live Fire Demo 50LBS & Below; Combat FEX w/Bangalore & Claymore
• Dec. 13, 5 a.m. – Dec. 14, 1 a.m.
  • Live Fire Demo 05LBS & Below; Combat FEX w/Bangalore & Claymore
• Dec. 14, 6 a.m. – Dec. 15, 1 a.m.
  • Live Fire Demo 05LBS & Below; Mortars/Missiles/Rockets/Small Arms
• Dec. 15, 7 a.m. – Dec. 16, 4 a.m.
  • Live Fire Demo 10LBS & Below; .50Cal, Small Arms
• Dec. 16, 7 a.m. – Dec. 17, 4 a.m.
  • Live Fire Demo 50LBS & Below; .50Cal; 60mm Mortars
• Dec. 17, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Live Fire Demo 10LBS & Below

The amount of sound, vibration, or light noticed by nearby residents can vary based on location, atmospheric conditions, time of day, and natural sound barriers.
