Quantico Marine Base Boosts Security Measures At Entrances
Drivers entering the Quantico Marine Base should expect an increase in vehicle inspections and longer wait times.

QUANTICO, VA — Marine Corps Base Quantico announced additional security measures for drivers and passengers entering the military base on Sunday. Individuals should expect delays due to the enhanced security checks, the Marine Corps said.
Base law enforcement personnel will be conducting 100-percent ID checks of all individuals. Drivers entering the base should expect an increase in vehicle inspections and longer wait times, according to the Marine Corps.
The Prince William County Police Department issued a traffic alert Monday morning due to congestion around the Quantico base. The police department said it has been receiving calls about traffic delays in the area. "Motorists can expect delays as increased security measures were recently implemented," the police department said in a tweet. "Use caution, have patience, and obey traffic laws."

The 100-percent ID check comes after the U.S. assassination of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad on Jan. 3. U.S. military bases around the world are on alert for potential retaliatory attacks.

Quantico is one of many military bases in the Washington area with heightened security. About 20 miles north of Quantico on Route 1, Fort Belvoir on Sunday announced additional security measures for drivers and passengers entering the military base.

Those with a valid ID (DoD Common Access Card, military retiree ID, DoD family member ID or Fort Belvoir visitor pass) can use designated lanes to enter. Anyone without those forms of ID will undergo additional security checks.
