Ramadan: A Special Month for Muslims

By: Aiza Mahmood Age: 14 SVA

Ramadan is a very important and special month for Muslims all around the world.

During this month, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, meaning they do not eat or drink during the day. Fasting helps Muslims become closer to Allah and focus more on their faith.

God says in the Holy Qur’an, “The month of Ramadan is that in which the Qur’an was sent down as a guidance for mankind with clear proofs of guidance and discrimination.

Therefore, whosoever of you is present at home in this month, let him fast therein. But whoso is sick or is on a journey, shall fast the same number of other days. Allah desires to give you facility and He desires not hardship for you, and that you may complete the number, and that you may exalt Allah for His having guided you and that you may be grateful.”(Surah al-Baqarah, Ch. 2: V. 186).

This shows that Ramadan is not only about fasting but also about learning and following the teachings of the Holy Qur’an.

Fasting in Ramadan is meant to teach self-control and good behavior. The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Fasting is a shield,” meaning it protects a person from bad actions and wrong choices. He also taught that when a person fasts sincerely for Allah, their past sins can be forgiven. This reminds Muslims to try their best to be kind, patient, and honest during Ramadan, not just to stay hungry.

The worldwide head and 5th Khalifa of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, explains that Ramadan helps people care more about others. He says that fasting helps Muslims understand how poor people feel and encourages them to give charity and help those in need. Following the example of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), Muslims try to be extra generous and caring during this month.

In conclusion, Ramadan is a month that helps Muslims improve their faith and character. By fasting, praying, reading the Qur’an, and helping others, Muslims learn important lessons that they should keep using even after Ramadan ends.

Ramadan teaches self-discipline, kindness, and closeness to God, making it one of the most meaningful months in Islam.
