Registered Sex Offender Caught Loitering Near Day Care: Police

The 53-year-old man is being held without bond in jail, say Prince William County police.

DALE CITY, VA โ€” A registered sex offender is being held without bond in the Prince William-Manassas regional jail after the Prince William County police apprehended him Monday outside a day care center in Dale City. The police said that Jesse Wade Himes, 53, of no fixed address, tried to enter The Goddard School in Staples Mill Plaza.

Himes has been charged with "being present on the property of a child day center during school hours as a registered violent sex offender," a police report stated. His next date in court is scheduled for Sept. 18.

Staff members at the day care center called the police at about 2 p.m. Monday. They told the officers that a man they didn't know had walked through the preschool's exterior into a vestibule, which led to another set of interior doors that were locked, the police report said.

When the individual "could not open the interior doors, he peered through the glass doors," the police report added. The staff members confronted him, and he left the preschool's property on foot.

The police officers found Himes a short time later and arrested him without incident. The Goddard School is at 5490 Staples Mill Plaza, near the intersection of Minnieville and Spriggs roads, about two miles west of Dale Boulevard.
