At about 4:15 p.m., rescue units were dispatched to an animal rescue on Lake Montclair in the 1700 block of Butler Place in the Dumfries area, according to the fire department.
Upon arrival, they saw the dog about 60 yards out in the water, where the ice had broken through. A water and ice rescue team was deployed using cold-water rescue equipment and dry suits, the fire department said.
