A 15-year-old boy was arrested at Potomac High School on Thursday after security learned he had a gun and two knives, police said.

DUMFRIES, VA — A student brought a gun and two knives to Potomac High School in Dumfries on Thursday morning, according to the Prince William County Police Department. The student, a 15-year-old boy, was arrested and faces several charges.

Around 8:20 a.m. on Thursday, Potomac school security contacted the school resource officer. Security personnel reported that a student had a gun in the school, according to the police report.

A student told school officials that he was in a bathroom when another student displayed a gun from under the stall.

The school resource officer found the student with a gun in another bathroom, authorities said. The officer took the student into custody and secured the firearm. When he searched the child, the officer also found two knives, according to the police report.

No gunshots were fired at the school, police said.

The student, who was only identified as a 15-year-old boy, is charged with three counts of possessing a firearm on school property and one count of brandishing. His court date is pending and he is being held at the Prince William County Juvenile Detention Center.
