Students See Homegrown Webcast on the Panama Wetlands

Prince William County Schools students tuned in recently for a lesson on the importance of Panamanian wetlands in a program filmed on location by the division's own media production team.

Broadcast March 8, the webcast included a live chat with experts on wetlands issues. It was the second of three wetland-themed shows. The webcasts are just one of several grant–funded programs to incorporate local, state and national science learning standards to address global issues and spotlight locations around the world, according to a PWCS release.

"By taking a virtual trip to wetlands around the world, students learn the functions and ecology of wetlands and their importance to people and wildlife, especially to migrating birds and fish," according to the release. "This interactive program encourages students to be curious and ask questions."

The first installment of this series took place in Vancouver, Canada. The final webcast will be filmed in Cordova, Alaska. The show is scheduled for May 9, during American Wetlands Month.
