Assistance League's Clothing Program Helps Kids With Clothing Essentials
The philanthropic programs of Assistance League of Northern Virginia (ALNV) are aimed at ensuring that students have the essentials they need to have confidence and succeed in school. So, ALNV provides new clothing to children throughout the school year, in addition to weekend food bags, books, and toiletries. In August the nonprofit provided about 1300 items of basic clothing to the 8 schools it serves, including T-shirts, shorts, underwear, and socks, and since then have provided clothing, sneakers, winter jackets, and gloves in the sizes requested by each school. Since September, it has purchased 113 pairs of sneakers, 108 winter coats, and 503 clothing items, such as long-sleeved shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, leggings, underwear, and socks. The expert shoppers on ALNV’s New Clothing for Kids team consistently find great deals, which ensures that it spends wisely the funds it raises and that it can help as many children as possible.
Assistance League plans to continue delivering new clothing items as requested by the schools for the remainder of the school year. Its commitment to the clothing program is bolstered by feedback from counselors who said the students were excited by their new items, and especially by how cute they are.
