Voter Fraud Prevention Systems In Place: Commonwealth's Attorney

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — Prince William County Commonwealth's Attorney Amy Ashworth said Friday that her office has become aware of allegations of people attempting to "test the system" by voting twice in the Nov. 3 election.

Ashworth, who was elected to her first term as commonwealth's attorney last November, emphasized that systems are in place to prevent people from voting twice in the same election.

"The public deserves to know that regardless of what is said or inferred by any official, elected or otherwise, it remains illegal to vote twice in the same election in the Commonwealth of Virginia," Ashworth said in a news release. "Systems are in place to catch individuals attempting to commit voter fraud and to harass or intimidate voters."

The commonwealth's attorney said her office is ready to prosecute incidents of voter fraud, election interference, intimidation, or harassment that occur in Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park.

"My office will continue to be of service to the electoral board this election season," she said.
