Teacher Assaulted Student At Beville Middle School: Police

A Beville Middle School teacher is on leave after authorities said she assaulted a student in the cafeteria on Thursday.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A Beville Middle School teacher was charged with assault after grabbing a student by the neck on Thursday, the Prince William County Police Department said.

The victim, an 11-year-old boy, reported minor injuries and received treatment from the school nurse, authorities said.

Investigators identified the teacher as 61-year-old Theresa Lillian White. White is charged with one count of assault and battery.

White was released on a court summons and her court date is set for Oct. 13. If convicted, White could face up to 1 year in jail, based on Virginia's sentencing guidelines.

A Prince William County schools spokesperson told Patch that White has been placed on leave pending an investigation.

The assault occurred on Thursday at Beville Middle School's cafeteria. Investigators from the police department and Child Protective Services said White grabbed the victim by the neck.

White and the victim separated, and the child went to the main office. White was criminally charged after authorities completed their investigation.

According to the school's staff directory, White worked as a teacher for students with learning disabilities.
