Thanksgiving has passed and I was very excited. Thanksgiving is a holiday which was initiated when the Native American Tribe, Wampanoag, helped the New England colonists by giving food during the dreadful winter.
As a Muslim, I think Thanksgiving is about giving charity or donating food to the poor, just like the Wampanoag's did. When we help others, we acknowledge God’s blessings upon us. Helping others is the best way to render thanks to God. The Holy Qur’an states: "And God brought you forth from the wombs of your mothers while you knew nothing, and gave you ears and eyes and hearts, that you might be grateful" (16:79).
We can never thank Him enough. But Thanksgiving is not the only day we should give and donate. In Islam, we are required to offer sacrifices for the good of mankind on a regular basis as a gesture of thankfulness towards them. So, let’s try to be thankful this Thanksgiving and every day of our lives.
