Tropical Smoothie Hepatitis A Prompts Lawsuit in Woodbridge
More than 100 hepatitis A cases in Virginia have been linked to the chain, according to health officials.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — And so the Tropical Smoothie seemingly never-ending saga continues, this time with a man suing the restaurant because he says he contracted hepatitis A at a Woodbridge outlet, according to Prince William County Circuit Court records.
Robert Daly says he was hospitalized for three days after consuming smoothies from the store.

Genetic testing shows the illnesses were caused by a strain of hepatitis A that has been associated with past outbreaks due to frozen strawberries from Egypt, according to the Virginia Department of Health.
After learning of the potential link to strawberries, Tropical Smoothie Cafe conducted a voluntary product withdrawal of all strawberries sourced from Egypt and found an alternate supply, the health department said.
