Verizon FiOS Offers Fast Internet at an Affordable Price

One of the many benefits of living in Woodbridge is access to several broadband Internet providers. FiOS from Verizon is a good option that balances speed and affordability.

Woodbridge is wired. Between cable Internet, DSL, web-enabled smartphones and Verizon FiOS,  we can connect to the net from a menu of providers.   Today let's take a look at Verizon FiOS.

We are one of the lucky communities to have this option. Verizon announced last year that instead of rolling out to new cities that it would focus on expanding service in markets it is already serving. That means those of you who have been envying your neighbor's fiber optics might have access soon.

The first sign that FiOS is coming to your neighborhood is that a whole crew descends upon your streets and buries the cables. If you are new to your neighborhood, you can check here to see if it already available.

FiOS offers plans ranging from $19.99 to $54.99 offering download speeds from about 1Mps to 15Mps. Most plans include setting up a wifi network in your home.  The pricing with bundles including your home phone, television and mobile phones can provide significant savings.

The setup appointment is longer than most, but once it is setup there is little to no downtime. In our home where we are pretty intense users of bandwidth (streaming, gaming, browsing the net all on different computers at the same time) there is no noticeable lag no matter the time of day.

Editor's Note: After speaking with Verizon's PR person, Harry Mitchell, the company claims fiber-optic cables are being placed underground in several Woodbridge developments to offer FiOS later this year.
