Weekend Planner: Golf, Candle Making, and Photography

Where/When: Forest Greens Golf Course, 4500 Poa Annua Ln, Triangle, Friday Aug. 26, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: You are invited to participate in the Fifteenth Annual Two-Person Captain's Choice Golf Tournament. Immediately after completion of play, there will be a hot dog and hamburger buffet with all the trimmings and soft drinks.  There will be prizes for the winning teams, longest drivers and those getting closest to the pin. All funds raised are used to help others in the community through the Lake Ridge Lions Club.

Pricing: $80, including green fees, cart, meal and prizes.

Where/When: , Saturday Aug. 27, 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Why Go: Come to the Visitor Center at Leesylvania State Park and learn how to make dip candles like people used before light bulbs were invented. 

Pricing: $2 per person or $6 per family.

Where/When: , Saturday Aug. 27, 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Why Go: Children ages 5 to 13 years old are invited to a fishing tournament on the 4th Saturday of every month over the summer. Participants will get the chance to compete for prizes such as who can catch the most, largest, smallest, or most unusual fish.  Bait is provided by the park for the children.

Pricing: $5 per person.

When/Where: , Saturday Aug. 27, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Why Go: Join other beginning photographers for a workshop on the basics of camera operation and composition. Participants should bring their digital camera, manual, and a notebook. The first hour will be spent discussing the basics of camera operation and the elements of composition and the second hour will be spent walking through the park to put into practice everything taught in the first hour. Wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes. Also make sure to charge your battery before you come and bring a backup battery just in case.

Where/When: , Saturday Aug. 27, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Come to the Art A La Carte Gallery for a reception to cool off from the Dog Days of August. The reception will feature the artwork of Sara Howell and Donna Wilson as they show you their 'cool' jewelry and photographic creations.
