What's That Sound? Quantico Plans Rocket, Missile Training

Residents near Quantico may hear extra sounds as Marines train with missiles, rockets, and mortars through April 9.

QUANTICO, VA — Residents in Woodbridge and Stafford may hear more explosions than usual in the coming days. Marine Corps Base Quantico said marines will be training with mortars, grenades, missiles, and rockets through April 9.

In an update posted to Facebook, Marine Corps Base Quantico said that training would be almost continuous. Residents near the base can expect to feel vibrations, see flashes, or hear gunshots while training takes place.

The amount of sound, vibration, or light noticed by nearby residents can vary based on location, atmospheric conditions, time of day, and natural sound barriers.
