What's That Sound? Quantico Sets Explosive Training Schedule

QUANTICO, VA — Residents in Woodbridge and Stafford may hear more explosions than usual in the coming days. Marine Corps Base Quantico said marines will be training with mortars, grenades, missiles, and rockets through March 17.

In an update posted to Facebook, Marine Corps Base Quantico said that training would be almost continuous. Residents near the base can expect to feel vibrations, see flashes, or hear gunshots while training takes place.

"The impact of noise, vibrations, and/or illuminations experienced across the area can vary greatly depending on the residential location, atmospheric conditions, time of day and reductions to naturally occurring sound barriers," the Marine Corps base said on Facebook. "Because training on Quantico is continuous, residents can expect to always hear some noise or feel vibrations."

Here is the full schedule for live-fire training at the base through March 17:

"Although we strive to provide accurate daily live-fire operations, please know schedules/live-fire activities can change due to operational conditions," the base said.
