Woman Accused Of Stealing Booze, Assaulting Prince William County Police Officer

The woman is facing multiple charges following the incident at a Walmart in Prince William County.

DUMFRIES, VA — A woman is facing charges after police said she stole alcohol from a Prince William County Walmart and later assaulted a police officer.

Maria Juana Chicas, 49, of no fixed address, was arrested Thursday and charged with assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, shoplifting, obstruction, disorderly conduct and shoplifting following the incident, Prince William County police said in a news release.

According to police, officers responded to the Walmart at 17041 Richmond Hwy. in Dumfries shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday after receiving a call about a disorderly person.

When officers arrived, police said they learned Chicas took merchandise from the store, including alcoholic beverages. She then entered a restroom, where she began consuming the
items.

When police tried to take her into custody, a struggle ensued and she kicked two officers, according to authorities.

Chicas was eventually taken into custody by police. No injuries were reported.
