Woman Viciously Beaten At Potomac Mills: Police

A young woman was viciously beaten by an acquaintance at the Potomac Mills shopping complex, according to Prince William County Police.

WOODBRIDGE, VA—A young woman was viciously beaten by an acquaintance last Thursday night at the Potomac Mills shopping complex, according to Prince William County Police. Detz Mancell Johnston, 25, of the 2900 block of Birch Creek Court in Dumfries, was arrested after a foot chase and charged with malicious wounding and violation of a protective order.

Around 8:45 p.m., police went to the scene for a reported assault. The woman, 24, said she and Johnston were in an argument that escalated. That's when he grabbed her head and began to repeatedly slam it against the pavement. He also kicked her several times before fleeing when the officers arrived.

Shortly thereafter, police found him walking nearby. Johnston took off running but police caught him after a brief chase. Minor injuries were reported.
