Women in Islam

How women in the religion of Islam have changed the world for the better.

Women are often seen working around the house or staying up all night with their children. But, do we even think about what else women have done? Women around the world have done amazing things. One such woman was Khadija (may God be pleased with her). She was the first wife of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be on him) who gave away majority of her possessions to him. She was the first person who believed that he was the Prophet. She was willing to give up anything and do anything for what she believed in. She was a person who was willing to give her entire life for the cause of her faith. Contrary to many misconceptions Islam has given equal rights to women. The Holy Qur'an makes it clear that men and women are equal in terms of their abilities, intellect and rights. It says, "But whoso does good works, whether male or female, and is a believer, such shall enter heaven..." (4:125). The Prophet Muhammad has said, “Paradise lies under the feet of mothers.” This means that by caring for and respecting one’s mother one will have a reward in heaven. This saying also means that mothers should be role models for their children. I believe that women have done a lot throughout history and they should be recognized for it. One of my favorite people in Islam is Ayesha (may God be pleased with her). She loved acquiring knowledge. She became a teacher for the companions of the Holy Prophet (pbuh) and all Muslims.

The list goes on. My message on this International Women's Day is that human's rights are women’s rights and women’s rights are human rights too.
