2 Of 3 Suspects Arrested For 'Deplorable' Puppy Cruelty UPDATE

UPDATE: Alban and Johnson have turned themselves in while Hoskins remains wanted.

WOODBRIDGE, VA—Authorities are looking for three suspects who peddled puppies by saying they were something they weren't and kept them in a shed under "deplorable conditions," according to Prince William County Police.

Two of the suspects are from Woodbridge and were out on bond after being charged with obtaining money by false pretenses regarding the puppies. But an investigation dictated further charges, and now each of the three is wanted for 11 counts of animal cruelty, and arrest warrants were issued Aug. 14. Wanted are:

• Crystal Leeann Hoskins, 20 (above left), of the 5500 block of Reardon Lane in Woodbridge. She's described as white, 5-4, 190 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair.
• Kamila Garcia Alban, 20 (above right), also of the 5500 block of Reardon Lane in Woodbridge. She's described as white, 5-3, 170 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.
• Elijzah Johnson, 20 (not pictured), of the 1500 block of Pin Oak Drive in Waldorf, Md.

The case traces back to February, when Animal Control officers began receiving complaints regarding mixed breed puppies being sold on Craigslist that were "falsely represented as being properly vaccinated." (The ads also said the puppies were farm raised and kept inside for crate training).

But several puppies bought through the ads were diagnosed with worms and parvovirus, "a highly contagious viral disease that can produce a life-threatening illness in young, unvaccinated puppies." One of the puppies purchased died of the disease.

An investigation found that the three women had been importing the puppies from North Carolina specifically for resale. On May 10, police—armed with a warrant—searched the Reardon Lane residence and found 11 puppies from seven to 14 weeks old inside a shed on the property.

Among the conditions in the shed: inadequate ventilation, exposed electrical cords on the floor and no food or water. The puppies were seized and found to have "a heavy infestation of worms," as well as being covered in urine and feces. All the puppies have since been treated and adopted.
