Woodbridge Man Charged In Exchange Of Gunshots At Shopping Center

A Woodbridge man has been charged for several crimes after police said he exchanged gunshots with a man at a shopping center last month.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A Woodbridge man accused in a shooting last month is now in custody on multiple charges, Prince William County police said Friday.

An exchange of gunshots between two men was reported Feb. 23 in the parking lot of the Market at Opitz Crossing shopping center in the 1900 block of Daniel Stuart Square in Woodbridge, a police department news release said.

The suspect — Jante Nathaniel Gary, 22, of Woodbridge — was
was arrested on March 13, according to police. Gary is charged with aggravated malicious wounding, shooting in a public place, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, reckless handling, carrying a concealed weapon.

He is being held without bond with a court date pending.

Gary and an unknown man both fired weapons, police said, and Gary suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.

The other man left the scene following the shooting and was not located.

No other injuries or property damage were reported. Police said the shooting was not random.
