WOODBRIDGE, VA — A 33-year-old Woodbridge man is being held without bond after police said he assault and strangled a woman during an argument at a Woodbridge residence and then lied about his identity to police, authorities said Friday.

Elias A. Ramirez-Lopez faces charges of abduction, assault and battery, strangulation, perjury and giving a false identity to police after he was arrested early Thursday morning. Prince William County Police were called to the home in the 2200 block of Madison Court in Woodbridge at 2:30 a.m., where the victim — a 36-year-old woman — said that she and Ramirez-Lopez became involved in an argument.

According to police, Ramirez-Lopez struck the woman before preventing her from leaving the bedroom and then grabbed her around the throat. The victim was able to finally escape and called police. Ramirez-Lopez was arrested but during processing, police said he lied about his identity to police and a judge. Police said that additional warrants were obtained and Ramirez-Lopez was held without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 18.
