Woodbridge Man Hits Officer While Attempting To Flee Police

A 19-year-old Woodbridge man tried to evade arrest last week, hitting an officer and a patrol car in the process, police said.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A 19-year-old Woodbridge man is facing multiple charges after he tried escaping police in his car and ended up hitting an officer and a patrol car in the process. Prince William County police arrested Christopher Ronaldo Sotomayor-Chavez last week on multiple charges including malicious wounding, hit and run, and possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

According to police, officers were conducting regular patrol Oct. 9 in the 17400 block of Jefferson Davis Highway in Dumfries when they saw what they called a suspicious vehicle driven by Sotomayor-Chavez. When officers attempted to make contact with him, Sotomayor-Chavez fled in the vehicle, hitting an officer in the process.

Police said they again located the vehicle near River Heritage and Jefferson Davis Highway and attempted another stop, which Sotomayor-Chavez ignored. When the vehicle finally stopped at the intersection of Meldrim Way and Chesapeake Drive, officers again approached Sotomayor-Chavez, asking him to get out of his car, police said. Sotomayor-Chavez allegedly ignored the commands again and sped away, hitting the door of a marked patrol car.

Sotomayor-Chavez eventaully was taken into custody after getting out of his car in the area of Porters Inn Drive, police said. While searching it, police said they located marijuana inside the vehicle.

Sotomayor-Chavez was arrested on charges of malicious wounding, hit and run, possession with intent to sell marijuana, eluding police and obstruction of justice. He currently is being held without bond. His first court date is scheduled Dec. 10.
