WOODBRIDGE, VA — Harold Bailey used to tell his fiancée, “One of these days, I’m going to win big!” He doesn’t have to tell her that anymore because it happened. The Woodbridge man won $100,000 in Virginia’s New Year’s Millionaire Raffle, according to a news release from the Virginia Lottery.

As the couple drove to visit his fiancée’s family in North Carolina, they stopped at Sav-U-Time of South Hill, and he bought a ticket. It turns out that ticket was one of five $100,000 second-prize winners announced on Jan. 1. “I couldn’t believe it,” he told lottery officials. “She screamed!”

Bailey, who works in human resources but was planning to retire later this year, said he has no immediate plans for his winnings except to pay bills. “I’m shocked, but it’s a good kind of shocked,” he said in the press release.
