Woodbridge Woman Wins $1M Lottery Prize After Returning From Vacation

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — A Woodbridge woman returned from vacation last week to learn that she won $1 million from the Virginia Lottery's New Year's Millionaire Raffle.

The winner, Genese Rogers, claimed her prize last week.

Rogers purchased her winning ticket at the Food Lion at 6306 Hoadly Road in Manassas. She learned that she'd won after she got off a plane last week.

"I literally just started screaming," Rogers told lottery officials.

Rogers is an entrepreneur. She said she only plays the lottery in December and favors the New Year's Raffle for its odds of winning $1 million. Players have a 1 in 125,000 of winning a top prize.

Rogers told lottery officials that she plans to invest her winnings.

Rogers was one of five $1 million top-prize winners in this year's raffle. The other lucky tickets were sold in Leesburg, Fredericksburg, Stafford, and Arlington.

In addition to the $1 million prizes, seven tickets from across the state won $100,000 each.

Proceeds from the Virginia Lottery support public education throughout the state. In fiscal year 2023, Prince William County schools received more than $57. 4 million from the lottery.
