Woodbridge Woman Wins $50K In Maryland Lottery
A woman from Woodbridge won $50,000 from a Jan. 1 drawing in the Maryland Lottery's Pick 5 game, lottery officials said.
WOODBRIDGE, VA — A Woodbridge woman won $50,000 from the Maryland Lottery. Officials said the lucky woman bought her winning ticket at Olde Fitzgerald’s Liquors in Upper Marlboro.
Lottery officials did not identify the 61-year-old winner by name, but they said she was in shock after her win.
"I didn’t believe it,” the winner said in a news release. “My friend told me to look at the ticket and I still didn’t believe it.”

The woman, who retired after working with the federal goverment, travels into Maryland regularly. In December, she placed a $1 bet on the Maryland Lottery Pick 5 game. Her $1 turned into $50,000 after a drawing on Jan. 1.
The winner told lottery officials that she's going to use the money to pay off bills. She also plans to take her winning check to her father, who resides in a nursing home.

"My dad played the Lottery every day," she said. "I can’t wait to show him that I won."
Olde Fitzgerald’s Liquors, which is located at 7701 Crain Highway in Upper Marlboro, will receive $500 for selling the winning ticket.
