LIBERTY, WA - A tragedy for drivers and fruit-lovers alike, a semitrailer carrying 80,000 pounds of apples crashed Tuesday morning near Blewett Pass. The spill forced the closure of the pass, and dashed the future snack-times of countless apple consumers.

The crash happened around 10:30 a.m. along U.S. 97, about halfway between U.S. 2 and I-5 on the east side of the Cascades. The semi rolled completely, but the driver only suffered minor injuries. We may never know how many apples were bruised, however.

"80,000 lbs of apples lost," Washington State Patrol trooper Brian Moore declared - perhaps hungrily - in a tweet about the wreck.
