$5,000 Reward For Shooter Of Hero Dog Rex
Rex was shot three times last Wednesday while protecting his 16-year-old master during a home invasion in Des Moines.

DES MOINES, WA - After being shot three times during a home invasion last week, Rex the hero German Shepherd is out of the hospital and recovering at home. Now the focus turns to finding the person who shot him - and the animal rights group PETA is offering a $5,000 reward for information.
Near 12:30 p.m. last Wednesday, 16-year-old Javier Mercado was inside his home along South 234th Street when he heard someone breaking into his home. Mercado grabbed a phone, hid in a closet, and dialed 911.
Meanwhile, Rex went downstairs to confront the intruder. An intruder shot Rex in the neck and in each hind leg. Later when police entered the home to get Mercado, they thought Rex was dead - but he was just in shock.

Rex, 2, was rushed to the Blue Pearl emergency vet in Renton where he received medical care and underwent surgery to repair broken bone. He went home with Mercado on Sunday afternoon.
