5 Members Of Wash. Family Killed When Car Plunges Off Cliff

The crash happened in Mendocino County, Calif., on Thursday afternoon.

WESTPORT, CA - Five members of a Washington family have been confirmed dead and three others missing after a horrific car crash Thursday along coastal Highway 1 in Mendocino County, Calif. The family's car was found around 3:30 p.m. by a passerby who spotted it upside down in the Pacific Ocean at the bottom of the rocky cliffs along the highway.

The two parents had adopted all six children, including Devonte Hart, who appeared in a 2014 photograph hugging a Portland police officer after protests erupted in Ferguson, Mo., over police violence. The family had lived in the Portland, Ore., suburb of West Linn, but most recently was living in the Vancouver suburb of Woodland.
