Boy Has Deadly Encounter With Feral Dogs On Bainbridge Island

The 12-year-old was able to carry one of his spaniels to safety. The other one did not survive.

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, WA - A 12-year-old Bainbridge Island boy was cornered at his home recently by a pack of wild dogs, according to the Kitsap Sun. The boy was in his yard with his two small spaniels at the time. He was able to run into his home with one of the pets, but the wild dogs killed the other one.

The attack happened in November along Sportsman Club Road in the center of the island. Wildlife experts told the Kitsap Sun wild dogs are likely the culprit and not coyotes. Witnesses have described the animals as fairly large, and coyotes are typically scared off easily.

Others residents of the neighborhood have taken to carrying weapons while out walking dogs. The feral pack of dogs has reportedly menaced other people in the neighborhood. The state Department of Fish and Wildlife is advising residents not to leave food out and to carry an airhorn or bear spray for defense.
